The requirement to design classrooms and other core learning spaces to meet the Sound Transmission Class (STC) requirements has been removed. The EIQ prerequisite only requires classrooms to meet Reverberation Time (RT) per ANSI Standard S12.60-2002.
The STC requirements previously listed for this prerequisite in LEED - Schools Version 2007 has been added as an optional credit; IEQ Credit 9; Enhanced Acoustical Performance. This prerequisite credit is still required for all LEED - Schools projects registered under Version 2007.
So what does this all mean? In order to meet the IEQ Credit 9, all classrooms require a minimum STC 30 rating for all doors into classrooms and a minimum STC of 40 for doors into or between music rooms. Eggers’ extensive line-up of acoustical doors offers an easy and cost effective way to meet this optional requirement. Our particleboard door meets the STC 30 requirement with the addition of our “I” gasket system*. Additionally, Eggers can meet this requirement while contributing to other LEED credits in the same door offering. Doors are available in a variety of options: No added UF, FSC and 20 minute rated if requested. Additional options are available as these doors also allow for lites while maintaining the STC rating through the use of ½" laminated glass or a 1-1/8" sealed lite unit.
